God Bless Our Troops!

We watched American Sniper the other night. The movie is truly amazing. Clint Eastwood directs a powerful adaptation of an even more powerful true story, Bradley Cooper deserves an Oscar (or at least second behind Steve Carrel in Foxcatcher) and American Sniper is exactly the movie this country NEEDS right now.

In a time filled with things like race wars, sexual revolution, terrorism, anti-government movements, the general uselessness of a majority of us millennials and the overall dissolution of Christianity in America, we needed to be reminded of true heroes like Chris Kyle.

We need to remember that forms of evil we cannot even fathom do exist. Not only are they out there, but they hope to one day have an opportunity to spread their mayhem and destruction across the world. This is a real problem. Putting into perspective the fact that the barista may have forgotten our extra shot… “its hard to tell it just doesn’t taste quittttee right.”

We need to remember how broken the world is. We need to remember that the Lord told us it would get worse before it gets better with his return. We need to remember that America started as a country where we could pray in schools, babies were protected in the womb and we didn’t argue that we shouldn’t help fight against evil anywhere in the world.

“Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world.” – 1 Peter 5:8-9

We need men like Chris Kyle to get the spotlight. We need true legends like him to be the men our sons see and look up to. Not the Situation, Tosh, some million dollar athlete, an actor or musician. They need to see a man that fought and was willing to die for doing the RIGHT thing. A man that struggled with life- like we all do. A man that died trying to give back and share the love of Christ with a broken man in need. A man who would probably do it all again knowing the Lord was watching him and with him.

American Sniper is about more than the most lethal sniper in US history. It is about a man that stood for everything America used to be about.

We won’t all get the chance to save lives or protect our country through war. But we can all leave a legacy and an impact like Kyle did. We all have been called to be a light to the world for what Christ has done in our lives. We are not destined to fade into history leaving the world just the same as we found it.

How will you be remembered? I hope one day my kids and wife can look up to me like the Kyle family looks up to Chris. Like all of Texas looks up to Kyle.

“Greater Love has no one than thisi: To lay down one’s life for another.” – John 15:13

We are thankful to live in a state that honors heroes like Chris. We wish more people could experience the pride Texans have in not only their state, but in each other as Texans and this amazing country we get to call home. We truly feel sorry for and pray for those that don’t appreciate our fallen heroes. I hope they never have to experience life without the constant protection of selfless men and women laying their lives on the line for ungrateful people like themselves.

“This is how we know what Love is: Jesus Christ laid down His life for us and we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.” –
1 John 3:16

We are praying for all of you. We pray thanksgiving for heroes like Chris Kyle and the men he served with. We thank God for America and the opportunities we have because of the men and women who have gone before us.

May God Bless America.

***PS this movie does receive our seal of approval for clapping after it is over- usually we do not think this makes any sense at movies, but we believe you can honor someone whether they are in the room or not. As Christians we know that singing and clapping can be used as ways to worship and praise the Lord. So clap, praise the Lord for men like Chris Kyle and honor him after you see his amazing story unfold***
