O- Obey His Commandments

img_5330“Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Fahter, and I will love him and manifest myself to him”

– John 14:21

After we acknowledged the cornerstone of our mission, that we have been redeemed through Christ’s blood, we wanted the “O” to be a direct result of that truth. Obeying the Lord’s commandments comes after we have accepted the fact that our lives do not have meaning without the Cross. Now that we have our meaning it changes our actions, words and even thoughts while on Earth.

Joyful obedience is a difficult thing most times. The World, our Flesh and the Devil are all three simultaneously trying to attack the Lord’s authority by saying things like “surely He didn’t say you cannot eat from the Tree..” – Genesis 3 and “to you I will give all this authority and their glory, for it has been delivered to me, and I give it to whom I will” – Luke 4:6-

Something we hear today is “If God really loved me, then he would want me to be happy and do what feels right”.. this is the Enemy trying to soften the commands that God gives us throughout the Bible by making them seem old/outdated/prude/boring/lame/etc.

However God’s way never steals joy from our lives. By following the commandments of the Bible it allows us to be examples to non-believers of what our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is like. It keeps our minds clear to receive his Truth from His Word and disciplines us to grow in that Truth.

As we raise our children we want to be focused on encouraging Obedience. Our goal is to not simply have well-behaved children, but to encourage a lifestyle for each of them that will help them prosper.

“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers.; but his delight is in the law of the Lord and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in season and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, HE PROSPERS. The wicked are not so, but are like Chang that the wind drives away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgement, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous; for the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish” – Psalms 1

We’ve tried it the World’s way, and it failed us every time. #RobertsForever has decided we will go Christ’s way, because He will never let us down.

1.3.17 – Should I?

Ceremony TreeEveryday we make decisions both big and small. Some we don’t even have to think about (should I brush my teeth) while others weigh heavy on us for months and months (which job offer should I take?).

Our house hunt was very much a “weighing” decision. Jase lost sleep. Whole family was stressed, we’re sure friends were tired of hearing about this floor plan and that neighborhood. It was tough.

Thankfully we can no look back and praise God for his soverignty and control over the whole situation. He was with us every step of the way. He didn’t allow our offers to get accepted on houses that weren’t meant for us. He allowed other families to buy houses before us because that was His plan.

We have close friends wrestling with the same kind of decision making process right now. So tonight we listened to an old message from Watermark called “Should I”. we want to be a family that does not give advice from what we think or feel or from our previous experience. We want to be informed by scripture.
“I think” should be replaced with “the Bible says”.
This message is a great reminder of where/how to find God’s plan and desires for us. How He wants us to make decisions. We were super encouraged by Blake’s word tonight and we hope it helps you too! How cool is the book of Proverbs?

Please pray for us to help give godly advice and for our friends as they process some big decisions coming their way!

#PrayBold

We are studying the book of Acts as a church at Watermark. This past Sunday, JP spoke on the church’s first recorded prayer and how we should be modeling our prayer lives after it. We felt so ENCOURAGED, CONVICTED, INSPIRED to analyze our prayer lives and adjust accordingly. Here’s what we found out:

– we pray when it is convenient (before bed, at church, at community group, before meals)

– we repeat what others have said before (what we heard at camp / church growing up)

– we are not praying BOLDLY (asking a loving God for kind of boring stuff)

So here are some steps that we are trying to implement in our family’s prayer life:

1. Quote scripture WHILE praying

Ex. “Lord help me introduce others to you” becomes “Lord we know in Matthew you tell us we are the light of the world, please give us the boldness to not hide under a bowl” ***** this requires some scripture memorization, if we find ourselves praying Phil 4:13 and John 3:16 before each meal we may have found ourselves going through the motions again*****

2. Don’t limit what we ask God for, if it aligns with His desires we should DELIGHT in talking to the Father about it

Ex. “Lord please help us in the house hunt, we trust you and know your will be done” becomes “Lord, we want a house, so so so BAD. Thank you for this apartment, but we are tired of paying rent, the construction is loud and we don’t always feel 100% safe. Please align our hearts with your will and give us wisdom to process our options. Please give us a house so we can use it to further your Kingdom. In Jeremiah you remind us you already know our plans for us, we believe that includes where we will live, so help us seal that truth in our heart and show us the way!”

3. Pray Constantly

Ex. “Thank you for today Lord, please keep us safe as we sleep tonight” becomes “Good morning God, thank you for another day!” And “thank you for Taves and his good morning smiles, they remind me of your love for us as the father of Abraham, David, Jesus” and “thank you for Freedom Truck Finance, use me as the salt of the world like you said in Matthew” and “thank you for another great day of work, may my work in this garden be pleasing to you my rock and redeemer” etc, so on and so forth.

Please join us as we try to #praybold
